A CRM that sends email from your own mailbox
Lightng sends from your address, on your domain, through your own mailbox. Replies arrive in your inbox. Sent mail sits in your Sent folder. There is no sending service in the middle, no forwarding address in the headers, and nothing for a recipient to notice.
Most tools send on your behalf. This one sends as you.
It is a distinction that sounds like a detail until you look at a message header. A sending platform relays your mail through its own infrastructure, so the envelope sender is theirs, deliverability is pooled with every other customer on that IP, and the reply comes back to a system rather than to you. Dedicated cold-email tools go further: their own documentation recommends buying separate lookalike domains so that your real one is never exposed to the consequences.
Lightng connects to the mailbox you already have and sends through it. The reputation you are building is your own. So is the risk, which is exactly why the CRM enforces a suppression list and an unsubscribe link on bulk sends rather than leaving it to you to remember.
Personalised, and provably so
Merge fields with fallbacks
Write once and it renders per contact from the row it is about. Every token takes a fallback, {{FirstName | there}}, so a blank cell never ships a sentence with a hole in it. Rows still missing a required field are left out and listed, not sent with a gap.
Send-as aliases
Send as yourself, or as sales@ or hello@. Each alias carries its own signature, and every report breaks down by sending address.
Saved templates
Keep the messages that work. Reporting is grouped by template, so 'which of these actually gets replies' is a question with an answer.
Suppression and unsubscribe
Bulk mail carries an unsubscribe link and the List-Unsubscribe header. Opt-outs are enforced workspace-wide on every later send, by anyone.
Preview before you send
See the merged message for a real row before it goes, not a template with braces in it.
Logged against the record
Every send is recorded on the contact's timeline with its subject, body and outcome, so the next person to open that record can see what was already said.
What you can actually measure
Opens, clicks, replies, bounces and unsubscribes, split by template and by sending address.
We put clicks and replies first, and we label opens as directional. Here is why, plainly: a tracked open is an image being fetched, and mail apps fetch images by themselves. Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads them for every message whether or not anyone reads it. Gmail proxies them through Google. So an open rate is a number that moves for reasons unrelated to your email, and any vendor quoting one as precise is quoting a measurement they cannot make.
A click is a person choosing to go somewhere. A reply is a person typing. Those are the numbers worth changing your outreach over, so those are the ones we show first.
Where email lives in other CRMs
Checked on 23 August 2026against each vendor’s own pricing page and documentation. Prices change; the dates are here so you can tell how stale this is.
| Tool | Sends from | Open / click tracking | Cost of email |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lightng | Your own mailbox | Opens, clicks, replies, bounces, by template and address | In the $39 Professional seat |
| Attio | Your own mailbox | Opens on Microsoft 365 only: “Gmail accounts are not yet supported”, and “not for sequences”. Click tracking not documented. | Plus $44 / Pro $99 per seat |
| Pipedrive | Your own mailbox | Yes from Growth: “track opens and link clicks in real time” | Growth $24, plus Campaigns add-on from $13.33 |
| monday CRM | Your own mailbox | Mass email and tracking on Pro only | Pro $28 per seat, 3-seat minimum |
| HubSpot | Your own mailbox | 1-to-1 in Sales Hub; bulk in Marketing Hub | Two separate products |
| Smartlead / Instantly | Their own infrastructure | Yes | Plus the secondary domains they recommend buying |
Two things worth saying straight. Pipedrive includes open and click tracking at $24; it is their Campaigns product that costs extra, and anyone telling you otherwise has not read the pricing page. And Attio genuinely added open tracking; the gap is that it does not work if your mail is on Google Workspace.
When you should not use this
If you are sending a thousand cold emails a day, use a dedicated platform. Sending that volume from your real domain will damage it, and the tools built for that job say so themselves. Smartlead’s own guidance is that “your company’s main domain should never be used for cold email outreach”, and recommends six to eight separate domains per thousand daily sends.
That is a different product doing a different job, and it is the right call at that volume. Lightng is for the mail a sales team actually sends by hand and in small batches: follow-ups, introductions, a personalised note to forty people who came to a webinar. From the address those people already know.
